Meghan “went right into Spanish†while volunteering for Homeboy Industries in Los Angeles.
As we had previously reproved, on June 23rd, Meghan and Harry visited Homeboy Industries in Los Angeles. The couple volunteered their time cooking up food for those struggling during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Meghan and Harry also spent some time getting to know those involved with Homeboy Industries. Today, details of their low-key visit are coming to light. Specifically, Father George Boyle, founder of Homeboy Industries, has revealed to PEOPLE, that Meghan gave them a glimpse of one of her many skills. According to Father Boyle, Meghan approached one of the groups members and spoke Spanish “perfectly.â€
“She just went right into Spanish, which was a revelation and it was very goodâ€, Father Boyle is quoted as saying. “She spoke Spanish perfectly with one young woman†he goes on to say. It turns out, Meghan is in fact fluent in Spanish, a skill she perfected while interning in Buenos Aires. The Duchess of Sussex is also said to have studied French for six years.
The couple has maintained a rather, down-to-earth profile since marrying in 2018. Much like Princess Diana, Meghan has become a royal for the people in her ability to connect with others. During this visit in particular, the couple was “completely engaged and very informal†according to Father Boyle. In fact, they proudly donned facemarks and hairnets while cooking up meals in the kitchen. Father Boyle goes on to explain that Meghan was the one to personally reach out to him and schedule the visit, “She didn’t want to have a long-table discussion or presentation or even a tour†he said.
Meghan and Father Boyle are no strangers either. In fact, Father Boyle shared that he had, in fact, previously met with the Duchess before her wedding to Prince Harry. It turns out Meghan and her mother Doria Ragland at the Home attended a Homeboy cooking workshop where they learned to make tamales. Father Boyle went on to say, “we were joking about that and she said, ‘I don’t even think Harry even had a tamale before!’.
Meghan’s Spanish and tamale-making skills will be sure to come in handy in Los Angeles.
