Watch: Meghan Markle Makes Surprise Appearance to Celebrate COVID-19 Heroes

Last night, the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle made a surprise, unannounced appearance on CNN’s annual Heroes TV Special to honor those who have been silently fighting against the coronavirus pandemic.

The show, which honors the people who were part of some of the most inspiring moments of the year aired on CNN on Sunday. During her appearance, the Duchess thanked the “individuals who stood up and made sure the most basic needs of our communities were met.” Her speech was full of hope and looked to a bright future as she honored the unsung heroes that have proactively given back to their community even during such difficult times. “Tonight we are celebrating these quiet heroes.” she said, “They nourished their neighbors in more ways than one, and they showed us, all of us, that even in the darkest times when we come together we have the power to remind someone else that there is hope and that we will be ok.”

During the un-announced appearance, Meghan Markle expressed her gratitude and spoke on how she was, “inspired by the stories of compassion in our communities,” the 39 year old former Royal said. “In the face of this devastating reality we also saw the power of the human spirit and the remarkable ways that communities respond in challenging times, we saw the good in people,” she went on to say. The video, which looks to be pre-filmed in the garden of her home in Montecito, California was brief but hopeful.

Markle’s theme was also centered on the importance of a warm meal, “When kids lunch programs came to all halt we saw our neighbors make sure those children received the nutrition they need.” She then went on to say, “…and when those who are Immunocompromised, or most vulnerable couldn’t leave their homes we as a community showed up to deliver the food they needed to their doorsteps”. For years, Meghan Markle has volunteered with programs that fight hunger.
