It’s Official: Meghan Markle, Prince Harry launch Archewell

It’s official! Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have officially launched the Archewell website 6 months after the charity’s inception.

Archewell is a non-profit organization launched by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. The charity was created about six months ago shortly after Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced their departure from the Royal Family. The organization’s launch had been delayed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Although the couple did their best to keep the name of the charity a secret until its’ launch, the public soon found out due to their ongoing battle to trademark the name. The couple experienced a bit of back and forth when trademarking the name ‘Achewell’. Some tabloids even went as far as to false report that the Duke and Duchess had their trademark application rejected over the summer.

The great news is that the trademark was not rejected and now we have the official launch of the website. The website, Archewell.com features a minimalist design in neutral tone colors. Visitors to the site get some background on the meaning of the name as the mainlander defines ‘Archewell’. “Archewell” is a combination of “Arche” and “Well”. The site defines ‘Arche’ as a ‘source of action’ and ‘well’ as “a plentiful source or supply; a place we go to dig deep”. Other than defining the Archewell name, there is nothing else currently on the site outside of a simple email form where users can sign up to receive updates on the organization.

Many speculated the foundation was named after Meghan and Harry’s 1-year-old son, Archie, but the Royal couple actually debunked that rumor a while back. During the original announcement for Archewell, the Royal couple was quoted as saying, “Before SussexRoyal, came the idea of ‘Arche’—the Greek word meaning ‘source of action.’ We connected to this concept for the charitable organization we hoped to build one day, and it became the inspiration for our son’s name”. Meghan and Harry went on to say, “To do something of meaning, to do something that matters. Archewell is a name that combines an ancient word for strength and action, and another that evokes the deep resources we each must draw upon.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have yet to reveal the platform, or platforms Archewell will be advocating on behalf. In fact, the world knows very little regarding the organization other than the name- and now this incredibly sleek website. What we do know, however, is that the Royal couple has had quite the busy summer speaking out on the impact of social media, voting and even Black Lives Matter.

If Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s work over the summer is any indication of the work they will be doing for Archewell, we are so excited to see what is to come. Check out the new Archewell site HERE and let us know what you think in the comments.
